This is the squirrel hunting story that started it all wayyyy back in 1997. I just had to set the example for my little brother Kurt, who six years later when rat hunting.

In the Spring of 1997, I started to notice some noises in my walls/ceiling near the bedroom. It sounded like scratching noises ... and when I would bang on the wall, I would hear the scurry of feet ... and then quiet. To make a long story short, I had squirrels in the attic! :-(

Needless to say, I wanted to get rid of the squirrels, but I could not find a point of entry on the outside (later, I determined it was through an attic fan that had a VERY small opening) ... so I went up to the attic to check it out ... and lo' and behold, there was a squirrel hole in the wood just above my bed ... and two little beady eyes checking me out. I went hunting with a "golf retriever" ... and Mr. Squirrel didn't back down for a moment; but got quite fiesty when I extended it his direction. This meant war - time to go squirrel hunting.

I first put some rodent poison up there ... and a week later, it was ALL gone ... but still noises. However, I did find one of the squirrels dead in the insulation (FOX-1 KILL!) ... so one down, one to go. I decided on more drastic measures for hunting squirrel #2.

I went to McGuckins Hardware in the Republic of Boulder and asked 'em for the biggest Victor rat trap they had ... then it was time to mount the assult as shown in these next two pictures. I went in with full "body armor" ... and loaded to the gills with Skippy Peanut Butter and the rat trap. I also had some wire cable ... which I used to secure the trap to a wooden beam ... I was not going to let any squirrels limp away!

I let a week go by ... didn't hear anything (remember that the hole and trap were RIGHT above my bed). Donning full "body armor" again, I went in to see the results of my hunting squirrels ... and SUCCESS ... FOX-2 Kill!

6 years later, my brother Kurt had a similar problem with rats getting into the dogfood in his garage ... so he went hunting rats with an M-1 Carbine - that web site also talks about the 78-year old grandmother who tried using a 16-gauge shotgun against squirrels but ended up shooting herself (she was OK) - i.e. hunting varmints is best left to the trained professionals at Rat-Hunter.com! ;-)

Be careful squirrel hunting with Victor Mouse Traps! ;-)
