Go Away Nigritude Ultramarine Spammers! ;-)

I emphasize (especially to Google! ;-) that I do SEO as a hobby (at best) ... so my involvment in the nigritude ultramarine contest has been mostly as an observor ... although I was the "Mr. Christmas Lights" that wrote the Slashdot Article ... and I've enjoyed stirring things up in various forums. If I had to pick a "favorite" page, I would give the nod to the Nigritude Ultramarine FAQ which actually has some useful content rather than a buncha spammy junk.

Below is a snippet from the main ad/SEO info page - go back to the Nigritude Ultramarine Hulks.

I also get an occasional Email asking if I would be interested in putting a link to someone else's web site or doing a link exchange. My answer is no, I'm not in this business, plenty of other people are. So please don't bother asking.

Having said that, if I do find a web site that has compelling content that is non-spammy, I'll sometimes add 'em as complement to my pages; that's what the "world-wide-web" is all about. Again, you WILL know when you send me a note if it's "legit" or you are trying to "spam" me ... and the odds are pretty good I'll know too! ;-)

And having written all of that, I get a chuckle out of ranking high in search engines such as Google for some funky stuff (try this search for "watching grass grow") so if you think my content is relevant, you are welcome to link to it. I've also applied some simple SEO (Search Engine Optimization) to these pages, but let me know if you think it takes away from the content. I'm a HUGE fan of good relevant content, and think that as Search Engines get smarter, they will get better at seperating the junk from the jelly ... and hey, the bottom line is, did someone coming to my web site find what they were looking for - I hope that is always the case.

The majority of people reading this will just gloss over all of the above, the minority will "understand" and realize I'm one of the "good guys" (or "white hats"), and unfortunately a small number of folks will try to figure out how they can "use" my stuff/web-site for their personal gain. Good news is that I'm a "white hat" Sysadmin in my day job, so I have a fairly decent BS meter and can usually sniff this stuff out! ;-)

Happy Surfin',
Alek

P.S. BTW, if not obvious, I'm a "fan" of Google and impressed not only by their technology, but their ability to take the "high road" and do "no evil" as they like to say - they have a pretty "white" hat in my book. Another one of their efforts I support is the Google Compute Project.
