Ah, isn.t it nice to enjoy a nice glass of cold water on a hot summer.s day? Well, many people in different countries aren.t able to do that. In fact 1.1 billion people worldwide don.t have access to water. You see in many places (especially Africa) they are not able to get either water or clean water. The water gets dirty mostly if there is oil or coal mining nearby. It.s hard to imagine but an average American uses 100-175 gallons of water a day (that.s including drinking, showering, cooking, dish washing, flushing, watering plants and a lot more.) Then an average African family, including all the same things uses 5 gallons of water a day. Once a week a women in the family makes about seven trips to a well gather water for the family. She would have to step right at the edge of the well so it would be very easy to fall in. The drop could be a very long way down or just about 10 feet. 40 billion hours are spent each year in Africa to try and get water, and still 1.8 million kids die each year from waterborne diseases (1 every 15 seconds!) If we don.t change our bad habits for using so much water, then by 2025 2/3 of the world will be living with scarce water. So please try best to help water being scarce by not polluting, not taking super long showers every day, and make sure that you don.t use water for no reason. But don't worry, here in Colorado the water is safe, because we are able to clean the water.
