Subject: Followup from High Peaks Post 4th grade meeting yesterday ... Date: Fri, 15 Feb 2008 11:17:04 -0700 From: Alek O. Komarnitsky To: high-peaks-post-4th-grade@komar.org High Peaks Post 4th Graders and Parents, We had a great kick-off meeting over lunch yesterday. Nice to see so many kids who did it last year returning; plus some new faces. As I said, it will be hard work, but fun. Thanks to our awesome Editor-in-Chief Maggie Yost, everyone should have gotten an information packet. Your first assignment will be to come up with a story idea and I'm hoping we can nail these down by next Thursday, February 21st when we'll have our second meeting at the same time/place. I have created a web page that lists all the 4th grade students who are participating along with their Email addresses and, eventually, their stories - please see: http://www.komar.org/high-peaks-post/ and I will be sending Email messages to everyone on that list which includes several student addresses. Please let me know if any additions/corrections. I also want to give you an early heads-up that we have arranged a tour of the Denver Newspaper Agency Printing Plant which does the Rocky, Post, Camera, etc. A number of kids enjoyed a the Boulder tour last year (that plant has closed), so as one student said: "That will be really cool!" More details down the road, but I expect that to happen in a couple of weeks and it will be after school. We are also seeing if we can arrange a Reporter to chat with us. And I welcome any other ideas/suggestions to make this entire experience not only educational, but also fun for everyone. So again, please spend some time over the long weekend to come up with a good story idea as per the guidelines in the information packet. Given the size of the group, it will be difficult for me to spend a lot of time with every student, so I would ask that you brainstorm with your fellow students, siblings, and/or parents to polish this up ... and then send me an Email with what that idea is. It would be nice to have these before our meeting next week so I can update the web site and then we can discuss those along with what our next steps will be when we meet over lunch next Thursday in Ms. Wright's classroom again. alek P.S. I'd like to take a picture of our intrepid reporters similar to what I did last year - see below ... so come dressed as Clark Kent and/or Lois Lane! ;-)
