Taking skiing pictures can be a bit of a challenge due to
the wide dynamic range of light. While one can use Photoshop
to manipulate JPEG's a bit, shooting Camera RAW
(pictures taken with
Canon 40D and 50D)
allows a bit more latitude to adjust the image especially blown-out
highlights along with bringing out the shadows.
This provides some
"pop" that more closely resembles how your
eye actually saw the powder get ripped up!
